I personally like the look of a black or dark pages. I find it easier to view pages if they aren't so bright.
My biggest pet peeve is web stores that do not give a detailed picture of their product.
Its pretty sad when a $20 item in my web store is pictured bigger and better than a web store's $2,000 item.
